BRC Course Cost

Don't think of it as a cost.
Think of it as an investment in your motorcycle safety ... and many insurance companies offer a discount for completing a motorcycle safety course. In a year or two you could save more than the cost of this course.

How much

Fees for the course are established by the California Motorcyclist Safety Program, based on your age on the day your payment is received. If your age is ...
under 21 years - $150.00
over 21 years - $250.00

Why the difference? Students under 21 who want a California motorcycle license are required by law CVC12408.9(i) to take this course. Because it is mandated, the State allows a discount.

Tuition fees are not refundable for any reason.
You may reschedule for another course within six months of the original reservation.
You may be required to pay additional fees if you reschedule.

See the FAQ: How Do I Get Into Another Course for more information.

Forms of payment

We accept:

  • personal or bank checks drawn on a US financial institution, traveler's checks, money orders, or cash.

Required legal notice: Of course you would not do it intentionally, but if your check is returned for non-payment, a $25 service fee may be added and you may be required to pay with confirmed funds (cashier check or money order).

Why no credit cards? Like many small businesses in difficult economic times we are forced to reduce expenses or layoff employees. We favor keeping all our excellent RiderCoaches, so we chose to eliminate credit card fees. You may not know there is a "convenience fee" added to every charge. In the last year we paid those fees, that amount could have bought 10 new motorcycles. Sorry if it is an inconvenience for you to use a check, but we just can't afford it.

Whichever form of payment you choose, your reserved class seat is not confirmed until we receive payment. We must receive your payment within 5 business days from the reservation, or your seat will be released to the next waiting person. A confirmation letter will be mailed or emailed to you when your payment is received. Late payments may be refused or may cause your reservation to be delayed until the next class opens for scheduling. Once you make that reservation, send the payment in!

Changing a reservation

You may cancel a reservation and reschedule for another course within six months of the original reservation. Cancellation must be at least 5 business days before your reserved class starts. Cancellation within 5 business days is considered a voluntary withdrawal and you must pay the entire course fee again to reschedule. You must call the office to cancel.
"No Show" Failure to appear on time at a classroom or riding session requires paying 50% of the full course fee to reschedule and no priority is given for the next open class.
"No Show" Failure to appear at all at a classroom or riding session FORFEITS the course fee. The entire fee must be repaid to take the course again from the beginning.

The complete Rescheduling Policy is mailed or emailed to every student with the confirmation letter. You can view a copy of the Rescheduling Policy here. (Adobe Acrobat Reader is required to view the Policy.)
